Bang. I see a huge flash of light. I look around. Where am I? This definitely isn't Rubidia. I try to get up but I feel a sharp pain in my hip. I look down to see blood gushing from my hip. I close my eyes and clench my teeth in pain. I put my hand over the wound and look around for something to use as a bandage. I grab my pocketknife and cut a piece of my shirt sleeve off before putting it over the wound with duct tape. I slowly get up, still holding my hip. I look around and see a lot of rubble on the ground. Did the ship crash? Where is everyone else? Where's Kyle? I start to walk around, searching for someone or something familiar.

I find my watch flung across the way. It was covered by a small rock. I pick it up and it's beeping, a red dot is flashing to show me where to go. I follow the path and walk for what seems like hours. Where is this taking me? I hope Kyle is there. I hope someone I know is there. I arrive to a strange road. The street is made of concrete and there are houses up and down each side of it. The dot is flashing at a specific house. I walk up to it and look around. No way the others are here, this is mortal territory. I walk up to the door of the house and try to turn the doorknob. It's locked. I knock on the door once and someone immediately opens it.Before I have time to question them, I am pulled inside and the door is shut and locked behind me.

“Red. You don’t know me, but Nick and Cat told me do. I know you probably won’t believe a word I am saying, but I’m here to help you. Your ship crashed when on it’s way back to Rubidia. You were the only one to survive. To keep you safe from the Downlings I was told to make you seem mortal and enroll you into school here. You mustn’t tell anyone who you are or where you’re from. You will go by your full name: Raylynn Eden Davidson and you will attend the local high school. If anyone asks where you’re from you will tell them Ohio. This is California.”

The words all started to jumble together the longer I listened to the strange man speak. He was tall and had black hair with gray hairs peeking through and a few wrinkles on his forehead. He wasn’t too old, maybe forty or fifty. School? California? Ohio? What is he talking about. There is only one planet I know with a place called California. Earth.

We’ve been warned about Earth since we were young. Earth is known as the broken planet in Rubidia. Earth was apparently destroyed by mortals themselves. Mortals became so fixated on material things such as electricity that they didn’t realize how broken their planet was becoming. Everyone was getting torn apart. Some mortals spent more time buying popular things that they eventually became too poor to afford the home they lived in. Others were ripped apart from their friends after doing something to hurt them, whether it be stealing a spouse or just changing.

If this is Earth, there is no way in hell that I’m staying here. Who does this guy think he is? He can’t just expect me to believe that he knows Nick and Cat. I also do not believe that the others died in the crash. Kyle is somewhere out there and I am determined to find him.

“Red? Did you hear me?” The strange man asked.

I stare at him for a few seconds before slowly putting my hand behind my back, feeling for my gun.

His eyes squint, examining me carefully. He knows I’m up to something.

I quickly grab my gun out of the halter and pointed at him.

He smirked before grabbing the same gun from his belt.

How does he have one? Only Rubidians have access to these.

“That’s right. I’m from Rubidia. I was sent here to train Rubidians to act like mortals. They stay here with me before I send them off to the real world. You’re a teenager though, so I have to send you to high school. My name is Michael Arthurs. Everyone in Rubidia calls me Art, so you can call me that when we’re alone. I know you want to go home but it’s too dangerous right now, so if you listen to me and follow my instructions then everything will go much smoother.”

I look at him for a few seconds before deciding to trust him and put my gun back in it’s halter.

I sigh, “Fine. But there is no way in hell I’m going to an Earth high school.”

“We don’t really have a choice here Red.”

I groan before following him further into the house.
