Take back your ruler,

I want my lines

Uneven,

Imperfect,

Unique.

I’m not trying to be flawless.

Take back your sharpener,

I want my pencil

Worn down

By time,

Genuine.

I’m not trying to show off.

Take back your eraser,

I want to see

My mistakes,

Eternal,

Enlightening.

I’m not trying to forget.

But keep on writing,

Embrace curved lines,

Embrace your mileage,

Embrace your flaws.

My pencil may seem bare,

But what it writes isn’t.
