What Are You?

I’ve never seen your type before and I haven’t got a clue

what kind of thing’s confronting me – and yes, I do mean you.

Are you some kind of insect that will open up your wings

and quickly make good your escape as in the air you spring?

Or will you dive in water and go swimming with the fish

before I have a chance to catch and put you in my dish?

But now I see those little legs, so on them you will run

as I stretch a paw towards you, determined to have fun.

That thing that shoots out from your mouth, a tongue that’s really long,

I’d better just back off a bit before things can go wrong.

Are you some kind of insect that is gonna sting or bite?

I’m not sure that with you I want to get into a fight.

Perhaps I’ll keep my distance, watch you for a while instead

before I take a catnap and just rest my weary head.
