Chapter One
~Sophia~

The strict cop glared at me over the metal stainless steel interrogation table. His eyes were tense the result, from what looked like lack of sleep and drinking too much coffee. His wrinkled suit, five o'clock shadow and greasy hair, showed he probably hadn’t even been home in at least a day or two. Combined that and the stained tie he wore that smelled of week old coffee, and the fact that Derek was going to kill me when and if he found out I was here, made my head spin all the more.
“Now I’m going to ask you again, how are you involved with the murder of that man in the park?” His teeth were stained, from years of drinking coffee and smoking I’m sure, the smell of cigarette smoke seeped through the room as he talked.
“I’m not involved, I was walking past the old city hall when I saw the man lying in the yard, I figured he was drunk and passed out there. I’m the one that called you, why am I a suspect?” I growled, his stench making me gag.
This day was worse than I could have imagined, being stuck in the small Tillamook police station, covering for my pack members after they decided to dispose of a vampire in the wrong place, was not on my list of things I wanted to be doing. We weren’t even supposed to be hunting vampires let alone having to dispose of one.
“You know you can’t keep me here right, I’m under age and you haven’t even notified my guardians yet, which is illegal. I am only sixteen, and you are required to have my legal guardians present to even interrogate me.” I was barely keeping my anger under control and I was scared of what would happen if I didn’t get out of here soon.
There was a knock on the wooden door with the blinds shut tight. A lady opened the door and poked her slender face inside, her long auburn hair spilling over her shoulder.
“James her legal guardian is here to pick her up.” The woman said and without another word looked to me. “Are you coming dear?”
“Yes I am.” I replied with a smirk directed at detective James.
I got out of the seat and walked out of the interrogation room relieved that it was Emma I smelled, instead of her mate the Alpha. Though the female alpha could get cross as well she tended to be more understanding than the alpha.
“James, would you like to tell me why my niece was inside the interrogation room, without my consent?” The tone in Emma’s voice told me she knew the detective and it wasn’t a pleasant acquaintance.
“Emma?” The detective seemed surprised, and sour towards Emma.
“I’m waiting for a good explanation James Kenneth. You know the delicate situation that you are dealing with and you are going to regret getting in the way.” Emma’s face was stone cold, this was the reason she was the female alpha, she protected her own, and the supernatural world that we were a part of.
“Em please, just listen…”
“Don’t you dare, you already know more than you should, don’t make me regret telling you anything at all detective. Sophia, go get in the truck we are leaving. And detective leave my family alone, you are mad at me not them.” Emma looked to me then her eyes flashed a deep green for a split second, the wolf was close and she was in charge.
