1. "Why gain the world if you lose your soul?"

There's no point to

the money that you owe or the

car that repoed while you were turned into

the dust that sits on the television in storage in

Florence County, the land of our ancestors who

the men took and hurt and killed and stole

just so we can afford to sit in this room and grieve over your unforgotten soul.

the day of the day of the day of the day

you laid in your couch to never awake and see

the day meant for you, this is the day that your

soul left us on the day of the day of the day that was meant for you.

the time was near. the time drew a straight line right here. the time stopped ticking and we are left to pray

the tears away the fears away the home away the furniture away the "lifestyles" away the child away to

another state, how quaint

the money covered the tuition but not the hole that education cannot fill, an imaginary degree giving my aorta paper cuts

2. Scoota, Buddha, Head.

You come to me in my sleep and say,

Scoota, Buddha, Head.

I see you at the right hand of the most high not because you are the Messiah but because Jesus knew that that was the only way for you to see me from those tall clouds above Stone Mountain and Mount Greylock and the tiptops of the mountain you never wanted to climb with corpses lined up to meet the maker that drew the line to meet you, to meet God.

Scoota, Buddha, Head.

I see you next to your mother wearing the clothes you wore on your last run as you apologetically repented for omitting, for committing the sin you hate most because Love for me is more than the Love for you than the Love of Life for the Love of yours has gone in the same way with a separate destination, confirmed.

Scoota, Buddha, Head.

You know you're beautiful right?

You know I love you, right?

You know I'm proud of you, right?

You know you're blessed, right?

sleep hits me harder than the punch that death delivered around noon directly to your chest when your last breath was more like a cry for Help than a violent sigh, oh lord.

sleep hits you harder than my hand when I slapped you time after time after time when your glassy eyes stared at the ceiling as if the last thing you saw was the hand of God trying to blind your mirrors, oh lord.

sleep hit you hard. sleep hit them hard. sleep hit. sleep hurts. sleep forever, my dear, oh lord. eyes were on a sparrow, oh lord. hands were clenched in fear, oh lord. tears fell on the bills, oh lord. saliva spilled on my inked name, oh lord. lord, oh lord.

3. Dust to dust and the ashes blended in and blew away with the wind.

Particles travelled with the wind and rolled through the engine of the airplane harmlessly. A bit got in my eye.

Flecks and specks of your nose flowed to your childhood home and got run over by a hasty Jew from Lakewood.

Your right hand blew over to Washington where your first child was born not of your blood but of your love and it seeped into the soil and fertilized the purple flowers.

Your left toe blew into the windshield of a warrant officer and went back to fort jackson where you first learned to grow up: grow.

Your eyes and head and mouth and ears stayed in Macon on top of the grave where your peace once was.

Dust to dust and the ashes went to ashes and they blended into the soil and blew away with the wind.

"I don't care what you do with me when I'm gone."

your odd.
