I forgive the rude poet

With his shy arrogance

Aloof cool intellectual

Sitting in the spotlight.

With a dashed scrawl

Undedicated thrown back

Volume as though delivering

Local news not the treasured word.

I was done, finished with poet,

With poems, with reading and writing,

I would focus on something else

Some other creative art.

But it didn’t happen like that.

As the days turned into weeks

The words began whispering

Then calling shouting yelling.

The verses refused to let me go

Words came to me at night

Don’t turn your back, they pleaded

You’re killing us.

It's taken me a month

But I'm no longer angry

The poetry is greater than poet

The haunting words move me.

And so with hushed forgiveness

I'm unpacking the books

Giving it another go

For the sake of the poems.
