Decelerate

To get out in to orbit we’re going to have to pick up speed,

something more than supersonic, we are gonna need;

but once we get out into space we should just slow it down,

a deceleration is in demand so we can overlook this town.

All the people and the houses will disappear from view,

the only ones up in this space will be me and you.

We can look down on this planet with it’s colors blue and green,

the icy caps on mountains the whitest shade we’ve seen.

It looks so very peaceful when we look down from way up high,

hard to reconcile reality no matter just how hard we try.

Impossible to wonder how long left our planet’s got

unless there is some way to slow, decelerate the rot.

Should we stay up here drifting, forever on our own?

No, I guess you’re thinking that we should be going home.

A steady downward drifting takes us back down to the ground,

to a decelerated landing that does not make the slightest sound.

No matter what now happens this is something we have shared,

with speeding up and slowing down, together never scared.
