A poem to celebrate my grandfather's 80th birthday (12th May 1937). After his passing, me and my father would always visit him on special dates like his birthday and Christmas in order to remember him and have a small conversation with him however, every time we went together, it would be raining or had rained recently, typical for Britain I suppose. It would be that father would leave a cigarette with the flowers and we would have a small talk before, as of last year, visiting my aunt in the adjoining area.
Regardless, I hope you had a happy birthday Grandpa! Xx

It's raining again,

Never seems to change,

So common as we arrive,

It's becoming strange.

Or is it your way of saying

"I'm here, it's been long,

Oh how you've grown

to be mature and strong."

And yet you rest here still,

With auntie never far,

In the fields of sorrow and regret

or in the heavens, as a star?

Please tell us we're welcome,

In a place where others lament,

We simply want to talk,

And recall time we spent.

An image so vivid to me,

When my life seemed so bright,

You were a joyous spark,

Before you ran out of light.

Enjoy your cigarette,

All our company too,

We do desire however,

Alive were you and Sue.

I pray you are proud of father,

Just so as me,

I hope that, in turn,

You are sleeping peacefully.
