Crumpled Words

I wrote my feelings out for you,

I put them in a rhyme,

But it doesn’t do them justice --

It really is a crime.

The words are all so very wrong

It really is a sin,

I’ve crumpled up the paper

And I’ve thrown it in the bin!

Self-expression, it’s so very hard,

Honest thoughts tough to convey,

Especially when interpretation

Jumps right in to play.

The words, they might mean something else,

I know I’ll never win --

I’ve crumpled up the paper

And I’ve thrown it in the bin.

One last attempt I’m making

To get these words just right

And if this time I go and fail

I’ll just give up with the fight.

These words, they say you mean so much,

I’ll make a file and type them in

But I’ll not crumple up this paper

And I’ll not throw it in that bin!
