Photo On The Wall

Do you remember how you had my photo on your wall?

Now it seems you hardly even notice me at all.

Your eyes they stray to younger ones, those in their teens and twenties

Everywhere you’re spoilt for choice, they are there in plenty.

And then when I do catch you, glancing towards me

The frown that is upon your face – it’s very clear to see.

You strip away my confidence, I’m heading for a fall,

I’m looking for a great big rock under which to crawl.

I’m not one to criticize but I hear those snide remarks,

Each one a blade that’s sharpened just to make it hit it’s mark.

I’m beaten down to hide away, I’m scared now to go out,

For people when they see me, in their derision they will shout.

A mirror is something I’ll avoid, but maybe you should look and see

That the course of time has battered you as well as it has me!
