You do not trust me.

You think I'd lie without a second thought.

So, you inquire about my day and other men

hoping that I would get caught.

Knowing this, I still yearn to speak to you--

That is, 'til you actually call.

I spend hours listening;

though when I chance to speak,

you make me feel unbelievably small.

I cannot change your perception

no matter how strategic my aim;

for in your revered opinion,

all women are the same...

Is this what abuse

looks like in its infancy?

I want to break free but...

I'm afraid of what he'll think of me.

Damned if I miss his call,

and damned if I accept.

Damned if I resist the hurt.

And, damned if I become adept.
