Chapter 1 It wasn’t a big deal really. The thing I was about to do was simple. I was going to jump and my soul was going to reach the heavens in the blink of an eye. I took my first step towards the edge of the roof. The pastel pink clouds reminded me of the delightful crunchy texture of the pie I got the chance to eat on every thanksgiving. Tears started rolling down my cheeks. But I wasn’t going to give up. I couldn’t give up now. I took my second step. The buildings were like enormous, intimidating spears pointing towards the calm, blue sky which reminded me of my insignificancy on this planet. Somehow I was calmer. It must’ve been because of the thought of relief I was going to get to feel when this ended. It was kind of heart-breaking to know that out of millions of people, no one actually cared about me. I took my last step as my head started spinning. My vision got blurry all of a sudden and with a reckless move of my right foot I was now falling. Yes, I wanted to leave this life behind but I was still terrified. As I was falling, I noticed a faint voice calling out my name. “Jasmine!” the name that I hated the most. Even though I was still falling I was calmer now. I had accepted death for the second time. The first one ironically being the moment I decided to commit suicide. I felt the memories of my whole life flowing through me. I waited and waited for my body to hit the ground and to feel my ribs getting smashed. I was epecting to be free when suddenly I felt a gentle hand on my back. After blinking a few times I opened my eyes. Holding me in his arms was a girl wearing a short, black dress which was decorated with laces. She had an auburn pixie cut and green eyes. She was simply… Magical… “Ugh! What am I thinking?!” I snapped at myself. I was supposd to be depressed and sucidal. That was my only escape from this world yet I was thinking about how mysterious this girl was? What kind of suicide was this? “Um, hello.” The girl said quietly. I suddenly realized that she “saved” me from death. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?!” I yelled at her. She seemed scared. She certainly wasn’t the type to get in an arguement. “Why would you even save me?!” I asked in a loud voice. “B-because you were going… to die?” she said. “I thought that it would be a shame If such an ambitious and courageous person like you left us Jasmine.” I glanced at her with wide eyes. “How do you know my name? Who are you anyway? Did you stalk me?” I was walking towards her as the words escaped my mouth and she was slowly backing away. “I-I know I seem suspicious Jasmine but please, please trust me. I just want to help you.” I didn’t believe her. She was just a stranger who appeared out of nowhere how could I ever believed her? “I’m begging you, don’t do this to yourself. Your life is precious. Even more than diamonds.” I rolled my eyes. What was with her? She was talking in poetic metaphors now? “Ok that’s enough where’s the camera?” I said as I glanced around. When I looked back at her she seemed surprise for a moment but after a few seconds she started chuckling. “You are so brave you know?” and with that the same genuine smile was placed in her face. “I’m Shilan. I’m here to help you. If I’m right, you’ve been having problems with your life and curses…” every part of my body froze. How did she knew about my curse? How could she possibly know about my curse? “…Am I dead? Are you an angel because that’s the only way of knowing if I’m cursed or not sister.” Her chuckling transformed into a mysterious smile and I was starting to feel the curiosity that was rushing through my mind. “Let’s go on a short walk shalll we?” Shilan asked. “As long as you tell me the meaning of all this nonsense!” I replied. She blinked before saying “Of course.” I didn’t know where I was going however I didn’t wanted to know. It was one of the rare times that I got scared. The idea seemed peculiar to me however I went with it in the end. We slowly started walking through the cobblestone streets of Luminia. I was feeling quite nostalgic and surprisingly my depressed state started to fade away. It was a feeling that I longed for the past three months. Shilan was walking gracefully with her black combat boots. It was strange that she managed to take such silent steps with those shoes. I scanned her carefully. I suddenly noticed claw marks on her right hand. I was shocked. I immediately started asking questions “What is that?! Are you crazy?! How did it happen?! Are you hurt?!” Seeing someone injured was my weakness. Whenever I did, I immediately tried to help them as much as possible. There were even times when I tried to help people I saw in the hospital even though I didn’t know them. After all those times my mother hit me, I guess it became a habit of mine. I didn’t want anyone else to get abused. That was the reason I was suicidal anyway. However this magical vibe girl who suddenly appeared out of nowhere decided to help me? What a regular day it was… “So Jasmine…” she said the phrase in a cracky voice. “I don’t want to remind you anyting disturbing but why were you suicidal again?” , “I guess, school was too rough for me you know?” I lied. We walked past the river using the wooden bridge. The sky was now a shade of light pink and the sweet summer breeze was caressing our skin gently. A couple of cats were sleeping on vintage book piles wich belonged to old book-sellers. The street lamp was on despite the sunlight that was still illuminating Cralo Street. It was a quite pleasant scene to walk on after all the things that happened on that day. Chapter 2 As we were walking we realized that it was getting dark. “Hey Shilan… I know I was rude earlier, thanks for your help but I need to go no-“ She suddenly captured my arm like a predator. I looked at her face. Tears were spilling on the cold Stones of Cralo. I was even more confused than before. “Please… Stay with me…” was she emotionally manipulative? She didn’t appear to be so. “I-I’m sorry, I just… I don’t want you to go yet…” “And why is that?” “Because…” she let out a deep sigh. “I-I can’t tell you yet…” I raised my eyebrow at her. “Shilan I have to go. Besides, we’ve just met what makes you think that I trust you fully?” I could be blunt at times. And this was one of those times. “It’s for your own good Jasmine. “Please just… trust me?” “…Fine...” I said pulling my hand away from her grip. She was unexpectedly strong. We kept on walking. She had this strange aura that made people want to take to her. It was quite strange when you thought about it. “Tell me Jasmine…” I looked at her waiting for her question to come. “Aren’t your eyes purple?” They were. I knew it was an unusual color and I could remember getting teased at school for it however, I couldn’t understand the purpose of this question she was asking. “It’s just that… I think they are nice and- UGH!” She whimpered with my punch on her stomach. I wasn’t used to being called beautiful for anything. I got defensive too quickly not knowing what to do. “I’m sorry! Please don’t hurt me! I’m sorry!” “I-It’s ok…” I stroked my neck as I stared down at the floor of embarassment. “Now… tell me the reason behind you saving me. How did you even know I was falling?” I asked. “I was just passing by and I suddenly saw you falling that’s all.” She was looking at the sky and sweating. I knew there was something more than that. “Look Shilan If you don’t tell me what’s going on here this will be the last time that you saw me.” I replied. Her eyes widened in fear. It was almost like she wanted to keep me for her own. I didn’T know what business she had with me and that made me even more confused. “Well… you won’t believe this but…” “What is it that I won’t believe?” I asked. “This is not the first body that you posess.” “What the hell does that supposed to mean?!” “You were reincarnated Jasmine. Just like every mortal being.” “Ok, now you’re talking in a fairytale-ish poetic way again and that’s making me nervous.” “We were soulmates in your last life Jasmine. After your soul left your first body I was depressed just like you. The reality of things is, I searched for you all around the World even though the possibility of finding you was pretty low, I didn’t give up. I’m so lucky to have found you.” My hands were shaking and I was in deep shock. After a few seconds of speechlessness I was able to talk. “H-how do you even know that It’s me?” She smiled one more time. “Here let me show you.” And with that she took out her phone. “Turn around” she said. I did as I was told. After she finished what she was doing, she walked and stopped in front of me. She then showed me a picture of my neck that she took. I was even more shocked now. There was some kind of an emblem in the picture. It was like a tattoo which I wasn’t aware of. “What have you done to my neck?!” I asked her violently. I was furious.”I didn’t do anything, you had it from the beginning. It’s just that you weren’t aware of it because of your hate of lookin at your reflection.” “What is the meaning of it then?” “Simple,” she said. “It means that you’re my soulmate.” She turned around to show me the exact same tattoo which was on the back of her neck. It was a red circle covered in flames. I felt so dumb to realize that I haven’t noticed it for all these years. It was just strange that this happened because of my hate and fear of mirrors. “So am I stuck with you now?” I asked before I looked at the crescent-shaped moon illuminating the river. “And when did we walk into the woods?” I asked her. “Wait a second… There are no woods in Luminia. Where are we?!” “Relax Jasmine.” She said this time with an innocent smile. “We are safer here.” “Where is this place?! Is this some kind of witchcraft?!” “You weren’t supposed to know that.” I acted instinctively and punched her right in the face. She whimpered before falling on her back. Her face was bloody and she looked teriffied. She was almost like a defenseless baby bunny. “J-jasmine why did you h-hit me?” she asked in fear. “I don’t trust you. I never did. Now I will never get back home because of you. I wish you hadn’t saved me!” I shouted. Her smile disappeared and her hair was messed up blocking her eyes. She seemed like she was posessed by the devil. “Do you think deathis the answer? She asked. “Do you think killing yourself will solve everything? It seems like you’re not as smart as I thought.” I backed away. “W-what do you mean?” “I have known your soul for 748 years Jasmine. Do you think I could live without you? What a foolish thought.” “Yeah right like you’re immortal or something.” Shilan paused for a moment. I was slowly realizing what was going on “No… It can’t be…” “You’re either with me or against me.” She said. “A-are you a witch?” Hearing rumors about witches wasn’t surprising in Luminia almost everyone practiced witchcraft in some part of their humble lives. But before me was an expert sorcerer who had mastered the spell of immortality. At that moment, I knew that I had underestimated her. “Yes Jasmine. You knew that in your past life however It’s completely normal that you forgot that fact.” She said before she put on an innocent smile on her face. “Don’t worry, I’ll take you to our home.” “Our home?” And with that she touched my forehead. The only thing I could see was a green light and in the blink of an eye we were standing in the middle of a cozy room which looked like a nostalgic cottage from some kind of fantasy world. The walls were neatly painted in mustard-yellow and there were candles all over the place, each one posessing a different scent and color. There was a black cat sleeping on an orange, vintage sofa. There was also a fire pit. Pink flames were coming out of it. The room had nothing that functioned with electricity. The table which was placed in the corner of the room had randomly placed books, a small altar and a grimoire on it. There were also herbs that I had never seen before. It actually felt like… home. “Come on, you must be hungry. Let’s get you something to eat.” My eyes wandered the room slowly as I walked into the kitchen. The kitchen was quite small however there were still a lot of stuff that I haven’t seen before in my entire life. There were little glass cups filled with different kinds of desserts and there were wooden plates of colorful dishes in them. There was also a rainbow colored cake which looked really hard to bake. A giant cauldron was standing before me. Purple smoke was coming out of it. It smelled like freshly baked apple pie and apple cider. I inhaled the smoke to sense the wonderful scent better. “You seem like you’re enjoying yourself here.” Shilan said. “I would be very glad if you accepted to stay with me here.” I suddenly turned my vision directly into her eyes. “Are you crazy?! I have a family, I have to go to school and I have responsibilities which If I don’t accomplish I would go to jail and-“ She took a sample of the liquid in the cauldron with a wooden ladle. When she touched it, It started to glow bright yellow and in seconds it became a slice of pie and a glass of apple cider. “Bon appetit” she said. “I’m staying here!” I shouted. I got too enthusiastic whenever I got to eat apple pie. It was one of my weak spots. After I gobbled up the pie, some questions started to form in my mind one more time. “Hey Shilan…” I said. “Why are you being so nice to me? I almost killed you back in the woods.” She seemed surprised before she cracked up. While she was laughing, ravens began to come and sit on her shoulders. It was a peculiar thing to witness. “Because you are my soulmate silly! Of course I’m going to be nice to you. I have to potect you from the evil of this planet.” I felt insulted. So she thought I was weak. “I’m leaving.” I said as I stood up from the wooden chair. “W-what? But why?” “Umm I don’t know because you thought that I was weak?” “No please you got it wrong.” “Then what is it Shilan? What is the meaning of protecting me?” “I want to protect you from the spirits that you can not see. I’m also a type of witch who works with spirits. I just want to help you.” “Who on Earth are these spirits you speak of?” “They are poltergeists. They hated the fact that a human was the soulmate of a witch so they are trying to haunt you. I never thought you would forget about your curse but it seems like you did.” I was shocked. “So they were the ones responsible for my bad luck?” “Yes Jasmine. They were.” Everything made sense at that moment. My curse, Shilan’s politeness, everything. ”Fine I’ll stay with you.” “Yay!” she said quietly. “But on one condition.” I said “Whatever you say Jasmine my dear.” “I will eat pie everyday.” “Of course. As much as you want.” “Deal.” I said before we shaked hands. A new life was waiting for me. Chapter 3 After we talked a bit about how the World of magic works, I started to feel tired. My eyes were closing on their own. “Can I sleep on the sofa?” I asked. “Why would you want to slep on the sofa? We have a bed you know.” “We?” “Our bed? Oh right, you should’ve forgotten that too. In your past life-“ “I don’t care about my past life I’m not going to sleep on the same bed as you.” “O-ok whatever you want.” As soon as she snapped her fingers, I noticed another object glowing in the living room. It was an orange blanket with flower patterns on it. “So she can teleport objects too.” I thought to myself. “Good night.” Shilan said before kissing me on the cheek. After that she went to her bedroom like nothing happened leaving me confused once again. I made my way into the bedroom recklessly. I lied down on the couch and closed my eyes. Suddenly, I found myself in the middle of the woods again. Shilan was at the same place she was when I hit her and caused her to fall. However her face was not bleeding. She was looking at me with the same serious expression and I was really scared. Suddenly she transformed into a gigantic wolf and jumped on me. I was awake now. I took a deep breath when I realized that it was just a dream. I couldn’t sleep that night. The thought of living the same dream in my head was too horrifying. Chapter 3 I blinked a few times as the rays of the goldeen sun slid through my eyelids. I was feeling exhausted because of my lack of sleep. Recklessly, I got up from the couch and made my eay into the kitchen hoping to find some more pie. The leftovers of the sweet blessing was on the table. But I knew I had to ask Shilan before eating it. Finding her bedroom was quite easy. I knew that I stumbled upon the entrance when I had found the iron, lilac door which had moon aand star motives on it. A thin layer of black tulle was covering the door lightly but one could still see the hypnotizing patterns on the door. I knocked on the door a few times. There was no response. “Shilan?” I called her name loudly in hopes of her responding to me. A few second later I heard footsteps coming from inside the room. Suddenly Shilan opened the door quickly. “I can’t find Cranberry.” she said wiyh a concerned expression. I was confused. I didn’t know what or who was Cranberry. “What’s Cranberry?” the question had no bad intentions it was out of pure curiosity. That’s why I was shocked when tears started rolling from Shilan’s cheeks. She tilted her head downwards and quietly said “She’s my cat.” I was trembling. A person was crying in front of me and I didn’t know what to do. “AGHHH OK OK YOU DON’T HAVE TO CRY WE’LL FIND HER GEEZ!” I could feel the anxiety behind my words as they escaped my mouth. Still staring at the floor, Shilan held my hand.
