Hello!  My name is Brittany Scarlet Thunder.  I am 11 years old and live with my family on the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation here in South Dakota.  I live with my family, which consists of my mother and father (I call them Mother and Father), my little brother, Henry, 8, and my baby sister, Rosalie, aged 2.  Our grandmother also lives with us.

I am in the fifth grade; my teacher is Mrs. Yellow Knife.  I love school; I love my teacher, and I have many friends here.  My very best friends are Amber Tattooed Woman and Wren Bird Feather.

Some of my interests include going to pow wows, dancing (I do the jingle dance, and I also fancy dance; I've been dancing since I was a very little girl), drawing, writing poetry or stories, reading, watching TV, hanging out with Amber and Wren, and collecting stones and rocks.  I also love to play with my dolls (but knowing those days are numbered, as I am almost a teenager, in less than a year, and that makes me very sad).

When I grow up, I want to be a writer of children's books or maybe a professional dancer or maybe an artist.  I also want to be a singer; that's another thing I love to do.

I am pretty (or so my family or friends tell me).  I am fairly short for my age and skinny; I look younger than 11; I look more like a third grader.  It's rather humiliating.  I have long black hair that falls to my rear end, dark, dark brown eyes (they're nearly black, they're so dark), a heart-shaped face, and a mouth that's always smiling; I am a very happy person.

Next week, we are going to our first pow wow of the year; it will be held at the local community center, and tribes from the reservation (and surrounding areas) will be attending.  I am looking forward to it.  I will be dancing as part of our dance troupe, which is called the Rainbow Fancy Dancers.  The members range in age from 3 on up to 13.

Well, I hate to go, but I'm at school as I write this, and it's about time for lunch.  I will write in here again soon; until later, this is your new friend, Brittany Scarlet Thunder, signing off! Take care and may the Great Spirit bless you always! :)

*End of part one!*
