Tobacco is the most common and widespread legal drug with alcohol. About 1.1 billion people -- one in every three adults -- are smokers, according to the World Health Organization. Life expectancy for smokers is at least 10 years shorter than for nonsmokers. Compared to a nonsmoker, a smoker faces these risks:

- fourteen times greater risk of dying from cancer of the lung, throat, or mouth

- four times greater risk of dying from cancer of the esophagus

- two times greater risk of dying from a heart attack

- two times greater risk of dying from cancer of the bladder

Kate was a heavy smoker. Her life was about "Romance & Cigarettes" and "Fearies" too. But it all ended like in the "Titanic" when she was diagnosed with lung cancer and Leonardo, her boyfriend, dumped her. She had to undergo chemotherapy and it made her lose her "Sense and Sensibility". Since then it was no longer "Holy Smoke!", nor holy romance.

"Little Children" should be taught not to start smoking when they become teenagers. It's not only about telling, it's also about doing, as actions speak louder than words. So many people smoke in front of children. They are not helping, as children may think it's just normal and natural to do so. And obviously it's not! It's killing you slowly but surely. It's a "Contagion", it spreads like a disease. It seems cool to smoke, so teenagers do it to look more adult, it makes them believe they are taken more seriously by adults.

Every smoker knows it's bad for your health, cause it's advertised on the cigarette pack. But it doesn't seem to make people quit smoking. Anxiety is the number one reason smokers can't quit cigarettes. But there are many other reasons like:

- You can't resist the cravings

- You're not worried about it

- We all die one day

- It helps against work stress

- Quit methods are scams

- There are smokers all around

- Habit

Kate believed in all of the excuses on the list before getting lung cancer. Then she quitted smoking from one day to the other cause she had no choice. She felt lung cancer was like a death sentence. Her safe future had turned into an "Enigma". Will she live, or will she die? It's the only question that mattered. She didn't care any longer for "Hamlet" and "to be, or not to be".

She decided to have all the shit in her life "Flushed Away". She made her revolution. She followed a "Revolutionary Road" that led her to a healthy lifestyle. "A Little Chaos" in her life was needed to trigger her personal revolution.

She felt very insecure and she hided behind her bad habits and addictions. Now she had lung cancer, she felt she had nothing to lose. She decided to look at herself in the mirror. And she said to herself:

"I'm starting with the woman in the mirror. I'm asking her to change her way. And no message could have been any clearer. Take a look at yourself and then make a change."

She did a lot of positive self-talk, talking in third person. It gave positive results. She was sick, but she had the courage to be honest with herself and to face her cancer. In the adversity she had become a better and stronger person.

Self-reflection and introspection gave her a happier life. Here are the conclusions of her new wisdom:

"I am insecure. If you ask me, everybody is."

They do, but most of them don't show it. There's no need to show your weaknesses and vulnerability.

"I kept on going and I overcame my fears and got over my insecurities."

Courage is about overcoming fears, insecurities and obstacles. It's not about not feeling fears and insecurities. These are what make us human.

"Regret isn't good. Every decision one makes in life is made for a reason or another. Whenever something bad happens, I go, 'This is happening for a reason', or, 'This is going to teach me something'."

We are on earth to be taught a lesson. And when it's about lessons, the hard way is the best way. You don't learn anything when it's smooth and easy. I think we humans, are a masochist race. But we have a great potential for self-improvement.

"If being crazy means living life as if it matters, then I don't mind being completely insane."

Because of social conventions, the word crazy and insane has been distorted. Sometimes it's hard to tell who are the craziest, people who follow the conventions, or people who don't.

"So, goodnight Kate. Have you ever tried electronic cigarette? I've heard that E-cigarettes can help some smokers quit."
