Once you sang on the golden hills,

Beautiful as a songbird's trills,

Unwilling to pay Death's cost.

Oh my love, now forever lost!

You danced in the sunrise bright,

Eyes shining with ethereal light,

Your lips untouched by the frost,

Oh my love, now forever lost!

You walked in the forest green,

Climbed great mountains unseen,

Drawn to the ocean tossed.

Oh my love, now forever lost!

You loved all that was lovely and fair,

Upon the ground or in the air;

But now to another land you have crossed.

Oh my love, now forever lost!
