I blame Jack London:  it's his fault
he put Alaska in my head ---
he and his 'Call of the Wild.'  One
day, I hope to go there, I said ---

but that day was slow in coming.
Life got in the way and instead
of seeing it for myself, I
put those dreams into the grave:  dead,

killed by a thousand excuses,
chief among them, no way to shed
the fact I couldn't afford it.
And so, I'd pick up the book, read

one more time the adventures and
wish I were there, with dog and sled ---
Thirty years later, God answered
my prayers, both spoken and unsaid,

with a cruise for twin sister and
I to the Great Land:  awed and led
to never say never again:
living proof of His goodness spread.
