Nashville, Tennessee, May~

Dear Journal~

My name is Johnathon Sandusky.  I am 8 1/2 years old and I live in Nashville, Tennessee, with my family.  I have a mommy, a daddy, and many brothers and sisters.  I also have a grandfather and grandmother (Mommy's parents); they live with us, too.

I am in the 3rd grade at Eastview Elementary School.  I am in special classes because I have trouble with my reading and learning.  It's a big pain.  I also have problems hearing and seeing; I wear hearing aids in my ears and I wear thick glasses to help me see better.  I had a sickness when I was a baby and it caused me to have problems.

In addition to all that, I have a physical disability that affects my muscles.  I can walk some, but with help; I walk with crutches and wear braces on my legs.  I have something called muscular dystrophy (I had to look up the word so I could spell it).  When I have to do a lot of walking, I use a wheelchair.  I have had this problem since I was little, and unfortunately, they think it's gonna get worse, and I will eventually die. Doctors thought I would die by the age of five, but I've beat it by three and a half years; I'll be nine in December!

Guess I had the last laugh on them, huh??

I have longish blonde hair that falls to my shoulders and big, bright blue eyes; I am small for my age; I look more like five or younger.  I guess that goes back to me being born earlier than normal.  I was maybe 2 pounds at birth, but I somehow survived.  But my mom died while giving birth to me, so I never knew her.

When I was about three months old (and after I got out of the hospital after gaining weight and improving with my breathing), I was flown to the United States, to see if anyone would adopt me.  A couple living in Tennessee took me in as their son; I've been with them ever since.  They're the only family I've really ever known.

When I grow up, I want to be a country singer.  I sometimes sing with my family, who has a band; we all sing and play different instruments. Even me.  I play the piano mostly, but I sing; I love singing songs by Ronnie Milsap or John Denver the best; they're my very favorites.  But the lead singer is my sister, Ronee', who's the same age as me, and I get really jealous of her 'cause she's the family star.  Everyone pays attention to her and to heck with me, and it makes me feel bad.

I haven't met Ronnie Milsap or John Denver yet, but I hope to.  That would be a big dream come true!  But I have sung on the Grand Ole Opry, and I got so nervous I puked, right there on the stage, in front of God and everybody.  It was very embarrassing! LOL

Well, I have to go; I'm at school as I do this, and it's nearly time for lunch.  I will write in here another time; 'til later, this is your new pal, Johnny Sandusky, saying so long!  See ya!!

~Love, Johnny.  :)
