Strings

My strings are laying on the floor

For I am just at rest;

You come along and pick them up,

Will I stand the test?

You tug so hard on all the strings

To see which one goes where;

After that you’ll set to work,

You’ll do all that you’ll dare.

Make me wave my hand around,

Make my hands applaud;

Go on and make it really seem

That you are so adored.

Make my legs just run around,

Set my feet to dance.

You’ll keep me spinning endlessly

Until I’m in a trance.

Make me perform a merry jig

As tears stream down my face,

You will not care or notice

So long as I keep up the pace.

Those strings, they just get twisted up,

So you’ll set them to untangle,

Not one jot of sympathy as

My self-respect you’ll mangle.

I’ll be your entertainer,

And I’ll act under your control

Until you will just tire of this,

Your masochistic role.

Left, I’ll fall down in a heap,

But at these strings I’ll chew,

I’d rather be just dumped as junk

Than be forever ruled by you.
