But now he's left in the lurch as the Makers have learned enough to decide on withdrawal and disconnection. All the thousands of Interfacers must now forge new lives on Earth, many like Walter suffering emotional problems. The strange appearance of a man from the old Transcience agency bearing terrifying news gives Walter new purpose, but for what ends?
