Knotted

I’m going to go get myself a long piece of string

And in it I’m putting a knot,

A reminder of all the things that mean so much,

A reminder of things I forgot.

Another knot waiting for me to tie,

You might not know this so I’ll tell you why,

I’m catching up, holding in all of the guilt,

At least it is worth it to try.

A clear piece of string and a knot for a friend,

That will ensure we’ll always be close;

Then further along one that keeps them away,

The ones that do hurt me the most.

A knot that encases the nightmares,

One that brings on all the dreams,

One that leads just to fantasy land

Where nothing is quite what it seems.

With each knot my string has got shorter,

There’s no space to tie any more;

But there’s bound to be something that I have forgot

So I’ll keep it real safe ‘til I’m sure.
