Riding Hood

My lips are pink, my hood is red

and though I know the roads are safe by day

I walk the night instead.

Through marshy moor and meadow creek

beneath the moon I hear you speak.

A tiny village cabin light

glows weak where I will lay my head

and feel your tongue against my cheek,

your fur as brown as kibbled bread.

Your eyes like golden saucers stare

into the dark. They call me in

and know that I will soon be there

to share the warmth that love will lend.

I knock upon the wooden door,

the slightest flutter of my wrist.

A foggy haze blows through my hair

and swiftly upwards with a twist

a garland wreath surrounds my feet

and holds me helpless to the floor,

dispelling any last retreat.

So shall we meet, but not at war...

for while I find myself entwined,

I have no fear.  We are aligned.

My heart embraces its defeat.

Above the hearth a roaring fire

emulates my heat below.

You tilt your head and sniff the air,

then smile

as if to let me know

I cannot hide the want inside.

I feel my fountain overflow...
