An Hour.

An hour can seem like a lifetime,

when time sees to have frozen itself;

I’ll pick my book up, flick through the pages

and put it back onto the shelf.

That hand on the clock’s barely moved,

perhaps the damn thing is stuck;

or maybe the whole thing is broken

for that would just go with my luck.

Ten minutes have passed and it seems like a day,

something is wrong, this cannot be true;

I look once again, but time has conspired

to stop me from talking to you.

I’ll get up and go out, find some small jobs,

come inside and I’ll put on the kettle;

maybe magnets are stopping those hands going round,

it could be if they’re made out of metal.

I sit here thinking how it’s so strange,

when I’ve a deadline the time surely flies;

but when it comes to be waiting to talk to you

it just drags and then brings on the sighs.

Two minutes left, and then there is one --

and hey, the power goes out!

It has scuppered my plans, and that hour has gone,

but you’ll be relieved, there’s no doubt!
