When the moon is at its highest point, full and round; it's reflective light fills the night sky. My body lies still and my mind expands to allow all thoughts, good and bad to pour in, filling my fading body. Not knowing if I'm going to wake in the morning is a passing notion that never seems fleeting. This warm summer's night where the crickets sing up to that infamous moon could be the last treasure I bury. Laying here listening to the sweet song of the insects and the crashing waves of the ocean outside my bedroom window, I try soaking in all that I can. Every cell in my body is feeling the pull, having no energy to even think about fighting. I feel the urgent need to close my eyes and push all negative thoughts and to grab a hold of every precious memory I've ever had. As the sound of the ocean's waves drift backwards, pulling my memories with them; your face makes its permanent stamp on my soul. Every instance of you gives me comfort. As I capture your smile for the last time, you fade to black and I gladly fade with you.
