Taking That Step

I’m taking that step,

Treading the line;

Don’t hold your breath

For things will be fine.

I’ll search for my balance,

Dig it back up,

And looking for courage

I’ll sip from that cup.

Foot to the rope now,

Not much more than a string;

It’s all that protects me

From a fall that would bring

My death, my destruction

My body to bash,

As down to the ground it

Would surely crash.

But I’m not giving in,

I’m still taking that step,

I’m walking the line

With not a hint of regret.

I’ll wave up my arm,

Perform a pirouette,

I can leap up and land

For my fate has been set.

I’ll make it across,

That I do know,

Any remnants of caution

I’ll pack up and throw.

The gap is so wide,

The crevasse is so deep,

But someday I’ll get there

If trying I keep.
