Untried children will not sift

Clear moments from the brine,

Lacking lenses, can’t see the rift

Lies along the bridge of time.

On little plastic dinosaurs

O’er splashings in cool streams

Pours something pooled in private drawers

That soaked the fades in our jeans.

It’s never here and never now

The rain that made these shine

And yet our drying minds avow

The joy with the toy was entwined.

But only across the bridge, at last in our far, high place

Can we see the glittering drops that fell upon our face.
