They listened

As an old man

Spoke of a long ago war

With tear filled eyes.

He recalled the liberation

Of Bergen Belsen

Aushwitz

And he remembered the buddies

That fell over Hiroshmia.

He spoke of the bride

In the Red, White and Blue

And where he had come from.

He remembered

The prayers they prayed

Before each battle

Because in war

You learn to pray.

They listened

With wide eye wonderment

And tear filled eyes

As they tried to imagine

Comrades falling,

And half dead Skelton's

Starved by Nazi monsters.

They listened

As the old man

Spoke of a long ago

War,

That really didn't feel

All that well.
