"Wake up Hiko." Hime is trying with her best efforts to wake up her brother. "Why can't you just get up already?"

Hime's brother, Hiko, was finally getting up.

"Ohayo, Ane-chan" The next thing I knew, there was a soreness in my cheek.

"You know better than to speak Japanese in this kingdom!" Japanese was the language of this country. Well, used to be. When this country was created, there was mostly American immigrants so the king graciously named "American English" the natural language of Japonica. Though in different parts, people speak different languages. The only state that is able to speak Japanese is Hokkaido. Hokkaido is the most northern part of the Japonica mainlands. All Japanese speakers live there except for us. The reason why is a secret.Even I don't know, but hopefully I get answers one day. Thats's all I can wish for.

"You need to get up Hiko. Breakfast is ready, so get up or I'll slap you again." Considering the fact that she was beaming while speaking these words, I was sure to spring up.

Hime and I are both the king's only children. I think. He used to be quite the player back in the day so who knows how may kids he's had.

As Hime and I were walking down the stairs to the dining hall, she poked me on the side.

"You remember what day it is, right?" The look on my face said it all. " Well, today is the day of the Gala. You know why were having a Gala? Of course you don't. You never did pay attention in class. It's for the 16th year of freedom. Against the demons"

Has it really been that long? That would mean that I turn 16 today. It also means that today is Appeal Day.

Appeal Day is a ritual that takes place every year on my birthday, November 10. They hold a Grand Gala to lure people in. Then, the royal army comes in and takes five people. No one knows where they go, but they are never seen again. Like most mysteries, this one has it's share of rumors. One says that they are sent to live in the king's estate. If so, I've never seen them. Some say they died by demons. Some say they even become demons, but I don't consider any of them a possibilty.

"Bacon! Eggs! Toast!" yelled the cook. It was the food I oredered to be prepared. Sis is getting the same so we're in this together.

As we sit down, we noticed that mother was here.

"Hi mom" We said in unison. That happens a lot more than I would like.

"Good morning children. How are yo---"

"Turkey! Sausage! Bacon!"

Father's food no doubt. Ever since I was born, he was on this meat diet. At least that's what mother says. Doctors say he's fine, but mother thought otherwise.

"He could be going CRAZY or something!" She yelled this at the top of her litte 26 year old lungs.

"Madam, there is nothing for you to worry about" The doctors always told her that. I'm pretty sure she's getting tired of it at this point.

After a few minutes, the king showed  up and then things got weird...

"Hi ther kids. You ready for your first Gala?"

"Yes sir" Hime and I said. Once again, in unison

"That's the spirit! HO HO HO HO HO!" Everyone at the table erupted with laughter. Even the servents sprawled about the room couldn't hold in there giggles. My father usually was a very boring man, but around this time of year, he would often get excited for no reason. I guess he's just excited for the Gala, but it's time for me to make my getaway.

"I'm gonna go get dressed for the Gala." As soon as I said that, I was gone, and then all I could see was black.
