Rippling Mirror

Looking in

I see a person

It was a mirror

But the image wasn't me

I reach out and touch the surface

It wavers, then it opens

Into a whirlpool sucking my fingers in

Then my hand, then my arm, then me

Inside was like a garden

With little statues and sprouting veggies

The wind blew around me in a chorus of whispers

I wasn't alone in here

I ran on my tiptoes

Trying not to make a sound

But leaves were crunching under my feet

And my panting wasn't helping

I trip over

A huge mistake

Silence

Nothing but silence

Footsteps behind me become louder by the second

I get up only to collapse again

Then I see the mirror

If only I could reach it

I crawl as fast as possible

I was almost there

Then I feel cold hands pulling me back

And the mirror disappeared forever
