Writing 101

Matthew Allen

I write to vent my anger. Most times, I deliberately swell up my emotion and then I get down to write because writing gives me the liberty to fully express my bottled up emotion. Writing is cleansing, writing is healing. And the writer can heal others too.

So, here are my few thoughts about the writing process at this moment.

  1. Set up a particular place to write. It could be a small desk in your room, corner of a library or somewhere.
  2. Have a game plan and stick to it. I was born in a village where the elders goes to hunt for animals in the forest at a particular time of the night and they always bring some good catch home in the morning. In the same way, you should have a particular time you write in a day and write at that particular time 24/7.
  3. Plan your writing and write every day. You will write better and clearer with a plan. And writing everyday will build in you a routine that will be difficult for you to break. It is like brushing your teeth every day. For me, I can’t go out in the morning without brushing my teeth and can’t sleep in the night without brushing my teeth.
  4. Pop up your writing energy. Before you sit down to write, take a walk for at least 30 minutes. Do breathing exercise while you sit down to write. Open your mouth and breathe like a dog for some time.
  5. As a writer anywhere you go, carry a writing pad and a pen. This will help you capture ideas or a high value thought that has just breezed into your mind or else you will never remember it again. I have lost several beautiful songs that came to me in the middle of the night.

Are you unpublished writer? Don’t worry, one day you will have your moment. I have not earned a dime from my writing, but I cannot but write, every day. If you want to help a serious writer, you can contact me.email:matthewoyebooks@yahoo.com
