Confusion. That was the first thing I felt.

My bare back was pressed against a cold, stone floor, sending violent shivers through my aching body. Something rough was covering my mouth; I tried to take it off but my shaking hands were tied to something a few inches above my head; I could feel rope on my wrists cutting into skin.

I couldn't see; a black world encompoased me. A momentary glimpse of panic was stopped short by footsteps. I couldn't tell where from. Above? I shouted then. But every time I shouted the rough piece of cloth slipped further into my mouth until I was gasping for breath. I steadied my breathing. I heard the footsteps again, except they were too light, and too fast. Rats? Mice? I didn't know. I tried to break my hands away from the rope but every futile effort was rewarded with a sharp pain. My head was screaming at me and my heart pounding at my body.

Amongst all the chaos in my head, I somehow managed to come to the conclusion thsat it would be better if the rats got to me first.
