When reality intrudes, illicit dreams hide away

Forsaking us, watching in dismay, hoping that maybe they’ll return someday

When reality intrudes, smiles turn into tears, as truth assaults once deaf ears

Now open to receive the brunt of fear’s, unpleasant shot straight to the heart

Painfully accurate, within even the dark

When reality intrudes, we rush to meet denial, only to be caught like a thieving child

In the midst of transit, most futile, of an unseemly faith, not worth the while

When reality intrudes, we’re dragged to a place

That neither you nor I, would wish to face

Alone, without a goal to chase, within a land so filled with waste

When reality intrudes, it’s never a guest

But simply a rude, demanding pest, we long to stuff into a chest

With locks and chains, the very best
