Despondent

I’m ranting and I’m howling

Shouting at the sky --

If only I could work it out

What is the reason why

Everything just messes up

Falls into a vacant space

And drags me straight down with it

To some black despondent place.

I’m howling and I’m screaming

And I’m wailing at the moon.

There’s bound to be an incident --

Will all be over soon.

Can’t take this inability

To ever get things right;

An inconsequential presence

That one day will no more fight.

Pressure here and failure there

I’ll fall under the weight

Of all the expectations that

Are riddled in with hate.

Floundering and drowning

Trying to swim against the tide

When all I really want to do

Is to dig a hole and hide.
