Half Mast

Once again the flags are lowered

To fly at just half-mast,

People watch in horror,

Uncomprehending and aghast.

Another night of terror,

Random targets on the street;

A vile and violent onslaught,

The sort we need now to defeat.

The slash and stab of lethal blades,

Vehicles turned in to arms,

Bullets, bombs – just anything,

Are used to cause such harm.

They say just try and carry on,

Live your normal life --

But that’s becoming so much harder

Under terrorism’s knife.
