This poem is about a love in the shadows. One lover wants to take their love into the light, however the other likes to play in the dark, never truly committing to their relationship. It is about a guy wanting more than a sexual relationship, but how can that be possible if his lover is not ready to settle down?

A Way to Your Heart

We only kiss at the brink of the night;
We only touch when no one’s watching.
Funny how you only notice me when we turn off the light,
But we turn them on and you’re off walking.

You don’t seem to care at all,
Of how it makes me feel,
When you’re out there having a ball,
Pretending I’m not even real.

You’re slowly wrecking my self-esteem,
And sending me into an endless haze.
Is this just a frivolous scheme,
To torture me for the rest of my days?

I feel like your personal doll;
Just useful to serve your special needs.
It gets tiresome to always hit a wall,
Because we always travel at your insane speeds.

I sometimes wish we’d never met,
But damn well you know I’d be lying.
Is this as hard as it gets?
Or will there be more crying?

I’m at the edge of falling apart;
Letting you go all the way to my head.
Teach me how to find a way to your heart,
So we can finally get out of this bed.
