"MK240 MILLION HAS BEEN STOLEN FROM THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH..." that was the talk of the town. It was crystal ckear that we had devils amonst us who could not think twice before doing an evil act... . I sat down on my favourite sofa, thinking about my late mum who died of cervical cancer. Doctors claimed that had all the needed equipment been present, she could have been treated and possibly escape death. Had those ruthless thives not steal the millions, my mum could have been saved. My mum could have been here telling me her stories or maybe baking me my favourite Chigumu (local cake). Well, all these things were over now and the only reality was that I was all alone now with my father who swwmed so distant to me. It was as if work was more important to him than me, his only son. Aa! Rest in peace mum. . On the day of her burial, I made a promise tha I would revenge my mums death by making sure that everyone who took part in the theft that was now populary nicknamed "cashgate" was brought to book. Though it seemed impossible for a 21-year old me, I was optimistic that I was gonna achieve that. . *** Two months later, my dad shocked me when he brought a woman whom he introduced as Mrs Khate. He told me that she was going to be my next mum; his new wife. I tried to show my disagreement but my dad gave me a look that translated to 'dont-be-stupid' so I forced a smile as if I was happy. I shaked this woman and went to my room where I threw myself on my bed and shed some tears. I wondered whether they were too fast or if they were already dating when my mum was alive. I also thought about the future if I was gonna be on the same page with that woman. . "Solobala!" my dad called me minutes later and I rushed to the sittingroom where this new couple was. Mrs Khate was about to leave so she wanted to say bye. "Solo, I know you are confused but am sure we will get along as daysa pass. Will be moving in tommorow with my two kids; Janet and Billiat? hope yu'l love to have a new family." she said and then she hugged me! Then my dad opened the door and the two went out and got in my dad's car and left. I watched the two leaving and by this time, my bitterness had lessened, not because of the heartwarming hug, but I had seen somethign else. This woman was beautiful and I uderstood why my dad fell for her. Had she been my age, I would have been jealous. I stood by the window and thought about the hug ooooh! temptetion in making. My sixth sense reminded me that "that woman is going to be your stepmum" so I had to get rid of her in my mind as soon as possible. *** The next day, I woke up and did some house chores then left for work. I was the sales manager at Kamuzu Malawi Ltd Co. I was a bit slow in my work because my heart kept on remembering the hug. It had been ages since I last had a hug froma beautiful lady. I tried not to think aout it for my late mumns sake but as much as I tried, it seemed impossible. . After working, I knocked off when the company clock indicated 17:30hrs. I closed my office and left in my late mum's car. . When I got home, I heard laughs from my bedroom. I entered the house and went straight to my room where I found a young boy possibly in his early thirteen or fourteen busy with my laptop. I asked him what he was doing as if I wasn't seeing and he gave a silly answer to my silly question, "playing games as you can see." I asked another question, thsi time with vigour, "Wait a minute...my laptop was off when I left it. How diid you know my password??" . "Haha I won't answer that one big bro." he said without even thinking of looking at me. "We will be sharing this room so relax!" he proceeded forgetting that he was the newcomer. I took my laptop and warned him to stay out of my way. . He got out and minutes later, I heard a knock. When the door opened, it wasn't this stupid teen who entered. "Billiat or whatsoever your name is I..." before I could continue, a lady came in...
