Have you ever been green with envy? We are all human, and I am pretty sure most of us have experienced these emotions. Maybe an older, smarter sibling, or a prettier, popular friend... We are flawed human beings and jealousy is part of it. In this poem, though it sucks to admit it, I try to own that jealousy as part of me. We are light and darkness, and we must embrace both as they will always co-exist. I hope you enjoy this piece.

I Get Jealous

I’m the camera and you’re the picture;
I’m the writer and you’re the scripture.
You’re the home-run and I’m the pitcher;
I get poorer and you get richer.

I’m the bass and you’re the drop;
You’re the star; I’m just the prop.
I’m the gun but you’re the shot;
You’re the best they’ve ever got.

I’m the bulb and you’re the light;
You’re the diamond that shines bright.
You’re the hitter and I’m just the setter;
Might as well accept that you’re better.

The truth is that I get jealous,
Every time they say you’re overzealous.
And there’s nothing I could say or do;
Sometimes I just want to be like you.

So don’t judge me ‘cause I’m human;
Your successes got me fuming;
The flaws in me are real;
That’s just how I feel.
