This poem is very special to me, as I wrote it to a friend almost three years ago. She was battling anorexia and chose to confide in me to help her. It was a tough process as I have never dealt with a situation like that one, so I wrote her this to at least cheer her up for a while; to make her feel special and loved. I know this is something that many young boys and girls go through, and it really should be addressed more. It's not only models and celebrities; your everyday teenagers go through this as well and we should do more to help them. We should be better role models and they should see different shapes and sizes in the media they're consuming. If you are going through this, know that you are LOVED, and that you are BEAUTIFUL.

Under Your Skin

Take a look under your skin;
All that matters it’s within.
It’s about what’s in your eyes,
And not the size of your thighs.

Don’t listen to those voices;
You can make your own choices.
Stop counting in your head;
Don’t let the poison spread.

Can’t you see all that you are?
Who you are is gonna take you far.
Just take a look in the mirror;
The writing can’t be clearer.

You were born to shine and thrive,
And I know you will survive.
If you could see all that I see,
You would finally be free.

Don’t let it deceive you;
You’ll make it through.
Take a look under your skin;
All that matters it’s within.
