A spark

I've spotted the village wench with her new bluenose lad that seems very coxcomb. The two seem to be moonstruck. Who am I to judge? I'm just the widow of the governor, pitied by just about everybody and ignored by the others. I just think it's because they don't know what to say to me. To be honest I like when people leave me be. The many villagers that do speak to me end up being a killjoy anyways. I wish I could relinquish all rights of being the governor's widow, left to be alone forever. I'm only 29 years old, it's not my fault that my husband, God rest him; enjoyed his red meat and whiskey. The old fart, I always told him it would catch up to him one day; and damn if it didn't. I would give anything to have a second chance at love. The wench and her accompaniment are actually brewing some jealousy in me that I didn't realize I had. My heart seems to be unprotected. Convict me of my crimes of being a young woman with thoughts of a common street girl, I'm sure. I want to flourish, not wither. I smile at them as I accept what my future is then looking to my right I spot a handsome man looking at me in a way I've only seen in a moonstruck wench and her lavish fellow's faces not even a moment earlier. He walks towards me. I feel my heart jump in excitement. A spark.
