A Special Brew.

Somewhere deep inside my head, there’s the makings of a spell,

that I am going to summon up if everything goes well.

Petals from a new-bloomed rose, kissed by morning’s dew;

a tiny little pebble that must have a tint of blue.

A feather from a raven, it must be long and black

and a fluffy one that’s from a chick, all color it should lack.

A pinch of deadly nightshade, some crushed up fuchsia flower,

a fir cone that has laid there in the shadow of my tower.

Two drops of water from a well, a dozen from a stream,

some fungus that has grown by moss that must be colored cream.

A spider that is spinning a web of golden thread,

and one of those black beetles, making sure that it is dead.

And then there comes the hard part, for I now need some stairs so high;

Not difficult you might be thinking, but I will tell you why:

those stairs must reach up to the sky for I’m needing some stardust,

and also I must collect a scraping of the moon's outermost crust.

Half a pound of sugar, a carafe of strong red wine,

a bottle of pickled onions and some slug-trail slime.

Stick it in a great big pot, light a fire to smoke,

I’ll need to put a mask on or I will surely choke.

After many hours of cooking, the mixture will be ready

I need to take it carefully and hold it really steady.

I’ll sprinkle it into the wind and whisper out a name

and if my spelling’s worked, their life will never be the same.

This spell is one that makes the dreams of who's been named come true

and I’ve gone and sent it on its way until it reaches you.
