I wish I could sew up my mouth

to never again say the words that cut you.

I wish I could soften my gaze

into one that doesn't resemble anger.

I wish I could make you forget

all the times I've hurt or disappointed you.

I wish I could mend your torn heart

from all the wounds I cruelly inflicted.

I wish I could be that me

you've always said lingered within.

I wish I didn't want you to leave

as you've been the best thing in my life.

I wish I could give you all you deserve

for you've earned much more than this wretched soul.

But most of all...

I wish you were more than my phantom love

you live and breathe, but never near to me.
