This poem is part of my poem book "Party For One", and I must admit is one of my favorite ones. After my grandmother died almost four years ago, I got a notebook from an aunt, as she knew I loved to write. The quote in the cover said "Write it in your heart that today is going to be a good day". I wrote in that notebook about my heartbreaks and bad decisions, tears that kept me awake through the night and challenges that kept me down on my knees. But as I was running out of pages, I stared at that cover, and got inspired to write this poem. We fall and learn, we lose and we love, but we LIVE. I hope this poem inspires you as much as it inspired me.

Write It In Your Heart

For all the times I missed the train,
And stood without an umbrella under the rain.
For all the arrows that I chased,
And for the living Hell I raised.

For every drunken night out on the streets,
And all the secrets hidden under the sheets.
For every person that drew me a smile,
And showed me a good attitude is never out of style.

For every moment I fell apart,
And was painted back like a work of art.
For all of the ones that said “goodbye”,
Even if I didn’t know the reason why.

For every tear I cried ‘til it was late,
And the joy felt after every perfect date.
For every song I dared to dance on my own,
And decided to take a leap into the unknown.

For the scars in the battlefield I earned,
And all of the lessons that I learned,
Those are the reasons why I’m standing here,
Fearful but no longer frozen with fear.

It’s not easy to wash away the sorrow,
But remember there’s always tomorrow.
You just have to write it in your heart,
That every day is a good place to start.
