Chapter 102

Edward was annoyed that he had to get the door himself. He wondered where the maid was, he certainly paid her well enough to get it herself.

He opened the door and staggered back when he was punched in the jaw.

Mitch looked positively murderous as he stomped into the house.

"What the fuck?!" Edward touched his jaw. "Why..." Another blow landed on his eye.

"Toi putain batard! Profiter d'une jeune fille! Vous me degoutez!" (You fucking bastard! Taking advantage of a young girl! You make me sick!) "Stay away from Ava if you survive what her father does to you once he finds out about you and her."

He was not a violent man but after what Ava had told him, he could not restrain himself from causing bodily harm to a piece of trash like Edward.

He was angry at how a man who was supposed to lookout for the city turned out to be a child abuser. She was only 17 and the man was near forty when he first touched her.

He wanted to punch him again.

"You frenchie shit. How dare you come here to threaten me?! Do you know who I am?!"

"Yes, you are nothing but merde."

"I don't want Ava. She can be the whore she wants with anyone. You didn't have to come here and defend her honor as if she deserves it. She's slept with half the nation. If she's sleeping with you sure that she's sleeping with others. That bitch gets on her back faster than you can say yes to her offer."

Mitch took a step towards him.

The sound of a gun cocking came from the entrance. It was Kerim to both their surprise. "Oh please go on. I dare you to keep talking about Ava after what we just found out."

"Wh..what are doing here?" Edward looked like he was going to pee his pants.

"Can't you guess?" Kerim's smile wasn't nice. "Dom wants to see you."

After Mitch had left Ava, she was crying and she couldn't take it any longer. She might as well get over everyone's reaction now, starting with her father's.

She left the room barefoot and headed for her parents'. She knocked first and waited for him to tell her to enter.

He was lying in his bed looking tired but he smiled when he saw her. "Darling, how are you?"

"I'm good." She closed the door and went to sit next to him.

"Why are you crying?" His brow furrowed in concern when he noticed her tear stained cheeks.

She sniffled. "I have to tell you something and you're not going to like it. You'll probably hate me."

"I would never hate you. You're my babygirl. One of them." He brushed away the tears from her cheeks. "Tell me."

She bit her lip and looked down. She couldn't look him in the eye and tell him. "Laney's father. I never told you guys who it was because I was afraid of what you would say."

"You don't have to tell us."

"I do. I do because you know him and I promised that I would tell if you lived. I have to tell you because I hate keeping it secret for much longer."

"Alright. I'm listening."

"It's Edward Dickens."

He stayed silent as he tried to process what she had just said.

"Bethany's husband? That Edward?"

"Yes. I'm sorry. I was young and I don't know, I just, I liked him. One thing led to another and we started seeing each other in secret." She sniffled. "I knew he was older and I think that added to the excitement. I should have known better. Then when I graduated and we had broken off the fling, I thought going away would take my mind off of it. You know what happened after I found out I was pregnant. I didn't want to come back because I didn't want to tell him. By then he was already seeing Beth. It was like this nifty secret I could keep but it didn't last long. I can't keep lying and keeping you all in the dark. Especially not Laney when she asks who her father is. I'm ashamed that it's him."

"You were only 17."

"I know dad but that's what teenagers do. Stupid stuff. Do you forgive me?"

"Of course I do."

"I don't know how I'm going to face everyone else once I tell them. Especially Beth. I had an affair with him again after they got married. I fell into old habits and I hate that person, that part of myself. I want to change. This is a start."

"We'll be here with you and for you."

She hugged him. He rubbed her back as his anger rose but not for her.

"Can you do me a favor and get your uncle Kerim in here?"

"Sure. Are you okay?"

"Yes. I am. Go on, you need to rest."

"You do too. I'm sorry to stress you out with this."

"Don't worry. I'm fine. I'm not stressed." He assured her. He kissed her on the forehead before letting her go.

"I'll see you later daddy."

He gave her a nod. His smile disappeared once she closed the door. He hated being stuck in bed. Katherine would get angry if he stood.

After a few minutes Kerim knocked and opened the door. He closed it and waited for whatever Dom had to tell him.

"I want you to find Edward Dickens and bring him. I don't care how you do it. He deserves it for taking advantage of my little girl. I want to see the fear in his eyes before I kill him."

Kerim saw the cold look in his brother's eyes. He used to see if often before they even met Katherine and Juliet. The only other time afterwards was when Frederick had kidnapped Katherine on their wedding night.

"He will pay for what he did. I don't want Laney having that man as a father."

"I'll get him for you. Are you sure I should bring him to the house though?"

"Yes. I want you to take him in through the back entrance and downstairs to our basement. I can make the walk there."

"Alright. I'll be back with him."

"Thank you."

"It's no problem. He shouldn't have messed with us." With that he left to do what he had to. He didn't need to know specifics but the hints were enough.

"Turn around." Kerim ordered Edward.

"Why?" He shook from fear.

Edward did. He heard Kerim step up behind him. Both his arms were pulled back and tied tightly with rope to keep in place.

"You're not really going to kill him. Are you?" Mitch asked warily.

He snorted. "Me? No, as much as I would like to. Dom is, probably. He is still weak though. We'll see." With Edward tied unable to move his arms Kerim led him out the door and into his truck. "Are you coming?" He asked Mitch.

He was hesitant. "I'm not sure if I should." Yet he should go and talk to Ava. He had just left her there. She probably thought he wanted nothing to do with her. "I'll follow you in my own vehicle."

"However you'd like. I'll see you there and not a word to anyone." Kerim got in his truck and drove off.

Mitch went to his car and followed after him. This all seemed very mafia style to him. After what happened at the event though could he really question it?

They were a powerful family and it seemed even more so than he had originally thought.

When they arrived at the house, Kerim took out Edward and led him to the back. There he opened a door of the house. Instead of it leading into the house directly, it had stairs that led to the basement.

Mitch was still following because he was curious to see what was going to happen.

Kerim made Edward kneel in the middle of the floor. He sent Dom a text to tell him that they were there.

"What are you going to do to me?" Edward dared to ask.

"You don't want to know."

It took a while but Dom finally made it downstairs. He was tired and didn't want to do this at the moment. He saw Mitch on one side of the room and gave his brother a look.

"He followed. What did you want me to do? He saw me with a gun."

"Look I'm sorry. I didn't know she was your daughter. I didn't know she was only 17. I swear it only happened once and then I told her that we couldn't keep doing this." Edward started to plead. "Please, I didn't know."

"Stop crying like a little bitch. We know the truth." Kerim walked around him. "Tell him, Dom."

"You slept with my daughter...just doing that would have you here." Dom stepped in front of Edward. "Yet all the other things are what makes it worse for you. Why did you have to make that mistake? Not only that, you targeted Beth because of her family. You thought that it would mean a bright future for you and connections with us. Instead of treating her with respect you did the opposite. Two girls from our family. Two is enough."

He took out the gun he had tucked in the back of his dress pants. He wanted to get done with it.

"Wait...should you really do that?" Mitch interrupted. He was all for making Edward miserable but actually killing him?

Dom turned to him. "Any suggestions?"

"I don't know. Anything that doesn't involve cleaning up bloody messes."

"He disrespected our family." Kerim argued. "Aren't you like dating her now or something? I know you spent the night with her. Juliet sure had a lot to say about that."

"You slept with my daughter?" Dom asked.

"Um, back to Edward at the moment. Can't you just...make him disappear."

"That's what I'm about to do."

"I meant alive. Warn him, tell him that he has to leave and never come back. If you receive any news from him or he shows up back here, you'll kill him then."

"I don't like it. Shoot him." Kerim waved his hand to Edward.

"Wait...if Mitch plans on joining this family he should have his opportunity at opinions. I don't like the idea of him leaving and being okay with everything though. He needs to suffer."

"Alright. Then...ruin him." Mitch thought about it. "Yes, ruin him. Do what would really break him. He values his career. That's why he married into the family. Take away his marriage, bring forth about his relationship with Ava, if she agrees. Ruin him in the public eye."

"You can't prove that Ava and I had a relationship." Edward decided to be cocky. It looked to him that Dom wasn't going to kill him.

Dom smiled. "Valid point but we do have proof. Keep him here, Kerim. I will talk with Ava and see if she wants to go public with what type of mayor we have. Join me, Mitchel."

He gave a nod and went up the stairs behind Dom.

"What are your intentions with my daughter?" He was asked as soon as they were on the first floor of the house.

"Um, like in the future?"

"In general. What is it that you want from her? Do you think you'll only sleep around with her?"

"No, of course not.'

"Good choice. Then, why do you want to see her?"

"I like her. Ava is interesting and I've found that she isn't the person she lets other people see. There's more to her than meets the eye."

Dom glanced back at him. "Are you being real with me?"

"Yes sir."

He nodded slowly. "Okay. You have my blessing as long as you don't hurt her."

"I'll try not to."

"Try harder than what you think you should. If she sheds one single tear over you, you'll find yourself in the position Edward is in now. Only you won't have someone to speak on your behalf."

They reached Ava's room on the second floor and Dom knocked. She told them to come in and he opened the door.

"Hi dad..." Her voice trailed off as she noticed Mitch. "What's going on?"

"We have something to talk to you about." Her father told her.

"Edward is downstairs and I want to know if you would like to destroy him."

"What do you mean?"

"Would you like everyone to know what kind of man he is? To have him impeached from mayor? I would do anything I could to keep you out of the public eye but if it came down to having to take him to court...Would you talk against him?"

"I don't know. I...I never thought of that. I only thought to tell you and that would be the end of it." She frowned. "Where is he exactly?"

"In the basement."

She blinked. "If I said no...What would happen to him?"

"Nothing good. He'll disappear from your life forever." Mitch decided to ease it in.

Dom cocked his head. "Okay, what?"

"Make him disappear forever. Tell him that if he ever comes back...he'll end up like the men on the field from last night."

Mitch looked at Dom. Her father didn't like the idea but he would respect her wishes. At least she hadn't told him to kill him.

"I'm going to let you rest and go take care of Edward."

"Then you need to get some rest as well. Mom is going to have a fit."

Dom smiled. "I will. Will you stay with her, Mitch?"

"I was going to sir."

"You can call me Dom. I'll see you later."

Mitch turned to Ava. "I'm sorry for leaving abruptly. If you'll let me explain, I will and tell you what I did."

She was relieved to know that he wasn't mad at her.

She patted the bed beside her. He could explain it all to her. She was just glad that he was back.
