 Her spirit came drifting

through the Bayou

In the evening,

at the setting of the sun,

I heard her calling to the night-wind

in the trees

And the night-wind said to her,

just for fun,

"Come dance with me,

Oh spirit of the evening,

Dance with me,

I'll twirl you ‘round and 'round.

Let us dance up to the sky,

past the trees we will fly,

Then swoop like the Owl,

silently to the ground."

So they dance a windy dance

through the swamp

Collecting assorted leaves

from here and there

And soon I could see

the forms they longed to be

As they dance their Bayou dance

without a care.

Then the moon

beckoned to the swamp,

"Ripple me, my love,

to the tune that they feel.

We will dance our special dance

upon the water

To the mystic tune

that makes the music real."

It was not long

before I could hear the music

So I took my love by the hand

and we danced

We danced with the spirits

and the night-wind

Until the ripples on the water

were enhanced.
