Her spirit came drifting through the Bayou

In the evening, at the setting of the sun,

I heard her calling to the night-wind in the trees

And the night-wind called her back, just for fun.

Come dance with me, Oh spirit of the evening,

Dance with me, I'll twirl you "round and 'round.

Let us dance up to the sky, past the trees we will fly,

Then swoop like the Owls, silently to the ground.

So they dance a windy dance through the swamp

Collecting assorted leaves from here and there

And soon I could see the forms they longed to be

As they dance their Bayou dance without a care.

Soon the moon beckoned to the swamp,

"Ripple me my love to the tune that they feel

We will dance our special dance upon the water

To the mystic tune that makes the music real."

It wasn't long before I could hear the music

And joined the spirits taking shape in the Bayou.

All us dead that lost our lives in this swampland

Come to dance, there is no reason to be blue.
