This poem is about the exact moment we realize everything is about to fall apart. It's about that moment when we hear the words "I'm afraid I have bad news" and right before knowing what it is. It's about seeing it all happen before your eyes, right before you're hit by reality. These are the cracks in your heart, right before it breaks into pieces. I hope you enjoy.

The Cracks Before The Breaking

It’s the bird falling after flying;
It’s the ringing of the phone.
That deep breath before the crying;
The throw before the stone.

It’s the last raindrop before the storm;
The morgue before the dirt.
It’s the first drop of sweat before it gets warm.
The blow right before the hurt.

The first blood drop after the stabbing;
Seeing the shit before it hits the fan.
The misfortune before the laughing;
It’s the failing of a plan.

It’s the bend before the break;
The call before the end.
It’s the biting of the snake;
The trial before being condemned.

It’s the dream and then the waking;
The heart sinking from the chest;
It’s the bee sting before the aching.
Losing the game after giving it your best.

These cracks before the breaking;
The fractures of the heart.
It’s a car crash in the making;
Before it all falls apart.
