If the river could be reversed

Delta flow into spring

I’d float a raft into the clouds

To hear the sky birds sing

And if our wayward tongues could talk

Slowly back into one

I’d name each unnamed thing I found

Leave helpless speech for none

But waters flow and syntax spreads

Separate into silt

Even protons drift apart

And first-born purpose wilts

No roots grow into single stem

Nor finding lead to search

Nor snow by avalanche be brought

Back to its whispering perch

But on a day beyond the arc

After the final rhyme

Our doing stage will be undone

And time will yield to time
