Hikaru Kitabayashi, is a full professor teaching in the graduate school of foreign languages of Daito Bunka University. He teaches geolinguistics and linguistic ethnography. He does research in the field of comparative historical poetic prosody from a geolinguistic perspective. He has done much research on the triolet as a verse form in Western European languages and, in the process, discovered a verse form designated as the biolet in 1887 by its creator, the Brazilian writer, Filinto de Almeida. As the biolet was a derivative of the triolet, it fell within the research that was done for a book he was writing and translating the biolet from Portuguese led him to write original of his own in English, something which he has continued and which resulted in this book.
