Like Honey

All those words of sweetness,

they slip smoothly from your lips,

those loving endearments

just like honey drips.

Subtlety has vanished,

you clearly state your case,

and I will love you gladly

just name the time and place.

But too much syrup makes me sick,

your sweetness turns to sour,

you cannot escape quick enough --

are gone within the hour.

The nectar’s gathered by the bees,

and bees can surely sting,

a bit like all the pain and hurt

your tricks of sweetness bring.

So take away those falsehoods,

seal up good those lips,

and make sure that you take away

those cloying honey drips.
