  He had to get away.  The man was closing in.  Any time now he would fall to the blade the man carried.  He had to put distance, any distance, between them.  Branches continued to slap him as he passed.  Slipping around on the wet grass and leaves that littered the ground that he ran on.

  He could go no further.  The boy had reached the edge of a cliff.

Hearing the crunch of leaves and the snapping of branched, the boy just knew the man was getting closer.  The boy had quickly made his choice. 

  Seconds later the man appears. 

Disappointed the boy didn’t go down by his blade, the man still smiled.  Soon, he would hear of a boy fished from that very river.  Only the man would know that he was the true cause of the tragic death.  The man smiled and turned back. 

The hunt for another would soon be on.
