By The Pool

The sun in the sky and it’s sure getting hot

but we know where to go to get cool.

We’ll take advantage, any excuse,

we’ll go spend our time by the pool.

We can soak up the sunshine, at least for a while,

then go and seek out somewhere shaded;

we’ll relax on the loungers, stay where we are,

at least ‘til that redness has faded.

Look at the water, just rippling clear,

a shame that it smells so of chlorine;

but we won’t be swimming, not even a dip,

so this scent we are best off ignoring.

It’s one of those days for the cream and oil,

our skin is in need of protection,

I reach out my hand, towards your own

hoping that I don’t meet with rejection.

So hand in hand we relax in the sun,

the water reflects crystal clear;

there’s nothing to hear but the tweeting of birds

and the cars on the road that is near.

Not a cloud to be seen up in the sky,

the thermometer reads really hot;

we’ll pack up our stuff, depart the pool,

and retreat back indoors where it’s not.

It’s still really early, not nearly midday,

but it’s too much now for us to take;

we’ll carry on lounging in front of that fan

and are sure that in here we won’t bake.
