Flaming Heat

More bad news, another fire,

yet more lives have been expired;

this time a forest set aflame,

lightning might just be to blame.

Forty degrees, too hot too soon,

for Portugal, it’s only June.

The wind it blew and fanned the flames

so many lives it was to claim.

Sixty dead, the last news said,

most were fleeing when fire sped.

Many laying on the ground,

Trying to escape and too soon found.

The fire blazed through woods thick,

a conflagration, way too quick.

Homes burned down, possessions lost,

a thunder storm has brought such cost.

A disaster brought by nature’s force,

callous, uncaring, in its course.
